Paris, the capital of France, has a population of around 2,000,000. Tourism is a big contributor to its economy, with roughly 40 million visitors per year. Paris houses the second busiest airport in the world. (I found it very easy to navigate.) The city's top attractions are the Louvre Museum, the Eiffel Tower, the Musee d'Orsay, and Centre Pompidou, but that's just the tip of the iceberg.
Paris is almost exactly what you expect it to be. Moreso than most places I've been. But it's very "extra". Everything seems more extravagant. The lights shine brighter, the food is more delicious, the art is more beautiful, and the fashion is more fashionable. I would add that the people are more sophisticated, which they are, but that makes them sound rude, which they are not. Everyone speaks English, gladly. Strangers in cafes will assist without prompting. Smiles come easily to shopkeepers and service workers. Show them some courtesy by greeting them in French and you'll feel you've made yourself a friend.
1. Omgosh, where to start. Well, like everyone else, you really should see the Eiffel Tower. At night the twinkling light show is something special.
2. You definitely should have some crepes. They're everywhere.
3. The catacombs is a famous burial ground under the streets. You can take a group tour or a private (or semi-private) tour. Lots of steps up and down, and winding tunnels, but so worth it to learn the history and see the tremendous care put into stacking the skeletal remains.
4. See a burlesque show. I went to Crazy Horse and was blown away. Moulin Rouge is the more famous one, and I've heard it's also good. Crazy Horse was phenomenal and very risqué, not for the timid.
5. Take a riverboat ride along the Siene.
6. Go to the Louvre but get there early to avoid the very long lines.
7. See Notre Dame and the Arc de Triomphe.
8. Shop, shop, shop.
9. Take a drive out to Versailles.
10. Enjoy the delicious food and wines that Paris known for.

On my trip to Paris in December 2022, my cousin and I booked a private tour of the catacombs. Our guide Victoire was amazing. She was so knowledgeable and interactive. We were able to see things most people who take the regular tours aren't. She was friendly and funny and despite the solemnity of the subject, we loved every minute of it. We booked her through Tiqets. I don't know if you can request a specific tour guide, but if you can, ask for her.
