Dubrovnik is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the Mediterranean. In 1979, the city of Dubrovnik was added to the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites in recognition of its outstanding medieval architecture and fortified old town. The city is filled with baroque buildings of virtually the same color (some shade of white with terracotta roofs), limestone streets and big sea-facing walls representing the story of resilience and liberty.
Dubrovnik is a truly beautiful, very clean, extremely safe city. I stayed in an Airbnb (which I can highly recommend) just a 10-minute stroll from the waterfront promenade. I couldn't have picked a better spot if I had been there in person. The Adriatic Sea is gorgeous. The mountains are stunning. The people are beautiful. The pace is relaxed and peaceful but can be a very busy place for tourists during the summer months. The season officially opens at the beginning of May, but April finds many restaurants and venues already opening. I spent time there in March and it was perfect. The weather was idyllic (to me) with highs around 60-65F with plenty of sunshine, making it feel much warmer. The evenings were cool and comfortable. And there were no crowds.
Oh, let's see... shop, dine, drink, stroll...
1. Take a stroll down (and up) the waterfront promenade. Stop for a bite at one of the many restaurants. Snap endless photos at the sun glistening off the Adriatic.
2. Visit Old Town, with its charming shops and restaurants. Trivia: scenes from Game of Thrones (King's Landing) were filmed here.
3. Walk the entire circuit of the Old Town walls, 1.25 miles with inclines.
4.Visit Sponza Palace and the baroque structure homes, museums and galleries.
5. Take a scenic cable car ride up the mountain and witness the beauty below.
6. Take a boat tour of the Blue Cave.
7. Visit one of the many small islands to soak up some sun, have a bite to eat, or escape the crowds.
8. Visit the Franciscan Church and Monestary and/or Dominican Monestary.
9. Take a walking tour and discover ancient Dubrovnik.
10. Sip an espresso or cocktail and people watch.

I can't single out just one spot because there were so many places that I loved. Instead, I'll share two of my favorites. Pantarul is a fantastic restaurant, that just happened to be right next door to my apartment. The decor is rustic industrial, the dishes (the actual dishware) were amazing and the food was excellent. The service was very, very good. I ate here more than once and would easily go back again and again.
The second place is a restaurant named Taj Mahal. There are two locations, one inside Old Town and one halfway between Old Town and Lapad. The cuisine is Bosnian and incomparable. I had lunch here twice and would do so all the time if I lived here. The spinach pie is amazing. Sit on the patio and soak up some fresh air, or sit inside the charming dining room - either way, you can't go wrong.
